David Garbett is a cinematographer born in Auckland, New Zealand. He began his career in the film industry working first, as a camera assistant, then Camera Operator and Steadicam Operator, collaborating on projects in New Zealand and internationally.
David has built up an impressive body of work with a diverse range of projects, including Feature Films, large scale TV series, documentaries, commercials and Music Videos.
Some of Garbett’s most notable work include the recently released Feature Film ‘Evil Dead: Rise’ which received wide critical acclaim since it premiered at the SXSW film festival 2023; the fifth instalment from the Evil Dead world has become the most successful at the box office, grossing over US$165m worldwide. David has completed two more feature films in 2024, a Sci-fi thriller with American director Jessica Farley and another more family oriented film with acclaimed writer director Andrew Niccol (Gattica, The Truman Show).
David was also lead cinematographer on the popular Netflix series ‘Sweettooth’ for three seasons (each of which went to number one on Netflix). David was nominated as a finalist in the highly prestigious ASC awards in 2022 for his episode 2 - ‘Big Man’ (season one) and went on to win an Emmy award for the second season in 2023.
David continues to work on exciting new projects, most recently ‘Spartacus:House of Ashur’.
